Local Business Highlight: The Refill Stop

Local Business Highlight: The Refill Stop

One day, in the area of our new listing at 3902-888 Carnarvon Street in New Westminster, I was setting up some directional signs for an open house we would have there.

While setting up the signs, I stumbled across a store that I had never noticed before:

The artistic ink wording on the window said, “The Refill Stop”. Thinking the store was one that sold refills of printer toner and inks, I thought the décor it was filled with was unusual. Nonetheless, my curiosity got the best of me, so I stepped into the shop.

I was greeted by a wonderful blend of floral aroma and tasteful pastel tone household items that felt very familiar to me.

“We have these containers! And this lunch bag! We have this welcome mat too!”

My next thought was,

“I think I found Sayaka’s favorite store! I better not tell her about it.”

The lady at the cashier noticed me and introduced herself as Jessica, the owner of the shop. I asked her to tell me about the amazing products she had stocked and the large wholesale jugs of soap. She answered, “We try to make a difference by sourcing local, package-free products that eliminate single use plastics. All you have to do is bring your personal containers from home and refill them with dish, laundry, body soap and all types of household cleaners.”

Jessica knows the story behind everything she stocks: from a family-owned farm in Peru, to local artists who need someplace to sell the products they make.

While she was just trying to be helpful in suggesting that I buy some refillable bottles for the soaps they supply, I refused! Instead, I will go back with my own containers to keep with the spirit of being a good earth ranger.

Though I left without soap (and printer toner), I picked up some great locally-made gifts for my wife, and delicious locally roasted coffee for myself.

If you happen to be near the New Westminster skytrain station, go visit Jessica at The Refill Stop, 865 Carnarvon St.

You will be glad you did.
